Deprecation of kURL embedded cluster and KOTS existing cluster installations
Issued on August 10, 2026
Two installation methods for GitGuardian self-hosted are deprecated since the June 2026 release (version 2026.6.0) and will be completely removed in the 2027.1 release:
- kURL embedded cluster: replaced by the new Embedded Cluster installation.
- KOTS on an existing cluster: replaced by the Helm installation on an existing cluster.
What this means for you
Deprecated installation methods no longer receive the latest platform improvements. For example, ClickHouse and object storage, which power the new high-scale analytics features, are only available on Helm and the new Embedded Cluster installations.
Until the 2027.1 release, deprecated installations continue to receive upgrades and support, but they miss new capabilities. After 2027.1, they will no longer be able to upgrade.
Who's affected
- Self-hosted customers running the kURL embedded cluster installation.
- Self-hosted customers running KOTS on an existing Kubernetes cluster (including air-gapped KOTS installations).
Customers already on Helm or the new Embedded Cluster installation are not affected.
How to migrate
We recommend migrating as soon as possible:
- kURL embedded cluster: migrate to the new Embedded Cluster installation. It provides the same all-in-one, single-node experience with the KOTS Admin Console.
- KOTS on an existing cluster: migrate to the Helm installation. Air-gapped? Follow the air gap Helm installation.

Timeline
- 2026.6.0: kURL embedded cluster and KOTS existing cluster installation methods are deprecated. They keep working but no longer receive new platform capabilities.
- 2027.1: both installation methods are removed. Migration to the new Embedded Cluster or Helm is required to keep upgrading.
